Sabinal River

We paddled the Sabinal earlier this year (2001) after a heavy rain. We were headed to the Medina and Frio since they were up, but the next morning they were still too high. We ended up on the Sabinal, a gorgeous stretch of water under a canopy of bald cypress. Lots of small ripples the whole way. We started at about 550 cfs and by the time we got off the river about 6 miles down and several hours later, it was down to 350 cfs. (We had to hike to the cars because we thought the 550 was going to get us another 5 miles downstream a lot quicker, but it dropped quickly). We unfortunately had a lady run us off from her land when we stopped for lunch. So we left and found another spot. The housing population is a little more than the San Marcos, but not as much as the Guadalupe. Sweet small drops the whole way, tho. Try it if you can and leave early.
