Canoeing in Oklahoma

Info I've culled from various sources. And under construction.

Let's go canoeing NOW!!!!

So there's the lowdown on Lower Mountain Fork. For maps go to: www.paddleyak.com/okmapsouth.htm for an area map and www.paddleyak.com/LMFTopo.htm for a detailed and labeled topo map of  the river and the roads to the re-reg and presbyterian falls

Ok, here's the lowdown. The gage underestimates the low flow, 300 is

more

like 500. Somewhere along the scale it becomes correct and on the high

end

max flow, 6800 shows about 8200. Irregardless we will go with the gage

reading.

300 cfs--- enders at bubba in small boats------------------------- river

low

for floating

500 cfs--- enders at bubba in RPMs, surfing above bubba---river low for

floating

800 cfs---bubba great, surfing above bubba not bad at all----river

decently

floatable

1000- 1500 cfs- bubba large, great surf wave above, enders at

presbyterian

rental canoes folding on rocks, major carnage

everywhere,

massive amounts of beer floating in river,

renters

threatening to

kill outfitters, bring your rescue

gear------------ river very floatable

1500-2500-- bubba huge, fantastic surf waves above bubba, presbyterian

getting nasty

action along entire run, any renters left on

river in

serious trouble

2500-4000-- bubba solid III, extremely serious hydraulic at center of

river

at presbyterian

dont mess with it!!! Waves above bubba PRIME,

Hopefully no renters left

Above 4000-Big water, most or all rocks covered, cypress trees are

numerous

and dangerous

surfs are all over the place and you'll be washed

way

down by the time you roll

Above 6000- bigger water, fast but roomy, except for the trees,

virtually all

rocks covered

big surfs, killer attack trees, long swims.

presbyterian gone, just haystacks

The Eagletown gage is at the end of the 3.2 mile run. Tuesday the

release

started at 2:00, reaching the rereg at 3:00 and the gage at 4:00. The

good

stuff is in a 1/3 mile area above presbyterian, starting 1 mile below

the

re-reg. As summer progresses the releases start earlier, beginning as

early

as 11:00 am from mid august thru sept 21st, depending on temps.

Basically the

river shoud be good from here on thru the summer.

The eagletown gage is

The gage at the lake is

http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/webdata/gagedata/bkdo2.current.html

The release is reported mid morning the next day, except on weekends,

the low

flow release is Outlaw creek

which is 99 at the present time. It should be increased to 140 very

soon, not

that I would encourage anyone
