X-Windows from Windows to Linux

I need to use my Linux box from a Windows machine so that I don't need another head just for my server unless I'm in bad or serious upgrade mode.

MicroImages MI-X Server for Windows works great and is free if you get the earlier version v5.6 - Build Date 19 Mar 1997. However, it's made for 95 and short file names, so you have to install it in the C:\MIX directory as it wants. Later versions you have to pay for unless you use a Macintosh.

I got my copy from Brown University. I also have the FAQ page for it.

To use, connect (via telnet or preferably secure shell) to your 'nix server and login. Then issue this command:

export DISPLAY=my.machine's.ip.number:0.0

Then you should be able to get X applications to your machine.
